Attracting visitors to your site can take a lot of time, money and effort. Yet after investing so much into your website, you still may be struggling to get more traffic. There are many reasons for this. Being familiar with these reasons can help you figure out what could be going wrong. For example, maybe the title of your content isn’t catchy enough, when compared to that of your competitors. In this case, you’d improve your title. This is just one of the various ways you can boost your website traffic.
1. Improve Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
75% of users never scroll past the first page of search results. This means that if your site isn’t ranking on the first page, then you’re already at a disadvantage unless you’re getting traffic from other sources. But if organic search is your site’s main source of traffic, only 15% of users will click through. Optimizing your website for the major search engines can help it become more visible in the search engine results pages (SERPs). Once you rank high in the SERPS, you stand a better chance of increasing your website traffic because the first five results receive 67.6% of clicks, while the remaining five just receive 3.73%. Therefore, the higher you rank in the SERPs, the more likely your website is to get traffic.
There are various ways to improve SEO. First, you should start with on-page SEO, which involves:
- Using relevant keywords
- Utilizing proper header tags
- Writing meta descriptions
- Using alt tags for images
- Creating an internal linking structure
These are some of the core components of SEO because they help search engines understand what your content is about. Once search engines interpret your content, your site will become indexed – which means it can be found by search crawlers and is deemed to have enough quality for relevant search phrases – it has a better chance of ranking. There are other SEO techniques you can utilize such as linking to authoritative sites, making your site mobile-friendly/mobile responsive and optimizing for voice search.
2. Perform Keyword Research
Researching common keywords your target audience searches for can help attract more people to your website. Once you identify common keywords that are relevant to your audience and their needs, you can add them into your content. If that particular page ranks for that keyword, it increases the chances of your audience seeing it and visiting your website to access information and advice.
To boost visibility even more, you can use long-tail keywords. These keywords have less competition. They’re also very detailed and show that a user may be ready to convert. For example, a regular keyword would be a logo creator, but the long-tail version might be logo creator free online.
3. Use Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Ads
PPC ads can be one of the simple ways to keep people coming to your site. It’s not free like search engine marketing, but it can be well worth the cost, especially while you wait for your website to rank. Google Ads is a popular PPC platform that allows advertisers to display a link to their websites in the SERPs. These results are listed above organic search results and have the word “ad” next to them.
The SERPs aren’t the only place to display ads. There are other sites within the Google Display Network that can serve ads to users on the internet, such as Google Finance, Gmail, Blogger and Youtube, just to name a few.
You can also customize these ads to fit your target audience. By creating targeted ads based on preferences, online behavior, demographics (i.e. age, gender, etc.) and more, you’re more likely to get people to click through to your website and see what your business has to offer.
Maintaining a quality website is hard enough, but getting consistent visitors is so much more involved. By implementing these tips, you can generate some powerful results.
